Aiken is a town whose equestrian past was founded more than a century ago on the perennial influx of the wealthy “Winter Colonists” from the Northeast and their pastimes of racing, carriage driving, steeplechase, fox hunting, and polo for men and women. More than a dozen members of the national Polo Hall of Fame have come from Aiken. The polo tradition continues today as polo players and enthusiasts travel from all corners of the world to play here.
The focus of Aiken is everything equestrian, no matter what discipline. A variety of horse shows and events are always on the calendar. A vibrant downtown of restaurants, boutiques and specialty shops makes this quaint city a popular destination.
